For delicate watches, gold plated and high value watches you do not want to use one or the first 2 methods as they leave discolouration that the customer would not like.

there are 2 ways of breaking the rust up enough to remove the pin

Usually a mixture of both works best. Warming the watch is best done with a heat gun as it does not discolour the watch and you can control the temperature well. I use either D5 oil or WD40. Both seam to work well. Place a drop of oil on both sides of the rusted pin and then heat the watch. The heat causes the oil to soak into the rust loosening it, hopefully enough to remove the pin. Sometimes you need to repeat this a few times before you succeed.
